ISO 16345:2014 specifies the performance parameters used to assess airflow characteristics and pumping head in cooling towers of various designs, including mechanical draft, natural draft, and fan-assisted natural draft systems, as well as open-circuit and closed-circuit wet and wet/dry cooling towers. It provides standardized rating boundaries for the classification and performance documentation of mechanical draft cooling towers in both open and closed configurations.
The standard excludes closed-circuit cooling towers where the circulating process fluid changes phase within the heat exchanger or where the physical and thermal properties of the fluid vary, as such conditions fall outside the defined evaluation and rating criteria.
